When should a child stay home from school?

·       If your child has a temperature of 100 degrees or higher in the past 24 hours. Keep your child home from school until 24 hours after fever is gone (without use of fever reducing medicine)

·       If your child has vomited 2 or more times in the previous 24 hours

·       If your child has diarrhea and/or they are not feeling well and need to use the bathroom frequently

·       If your child has a rash for which the cause is unknown, see your health care provider before sending them to school

·       If your child has an illness that prevents them from participating in routine activities

·       If your child tests positive for Covid-19, stay home for 5 days (day 1 being the day after the positive test). When they return, they should wear a mask in school for days 6-10.

Medication Policy

·       School personnel can only give medication, both prescription and over-the-counter, with the written order of a licensed prescriber and the written consent of the parent

·       This medication policy applies to all medication, including inhalers, epinephrine, pain medication, and daily oral medication

·       If your child needs to take medication at school, please sign the MPS Medication Authorization Form and have it completed by the child’s health care provider

Injuries and illness symptoms at school

The Pratt health office staff will call home to let care givers know regarding the following situations:

·       If your student becomes ill during the school day, including fever, vomiting, diarrhea

·       If your student has an injury to the head

·       If your student has an injury that results in a mark, bruise, or major abrasion

·       If your student is involved in a physical altercation that results in an injury

·       Anything of an unusual nature that care giver should know about
